These squeaking shoes were made for walking
So Maddie has been threatening to walk since October, but it turns out she is a very cautious child and has pretty much insisted on holding the hand of Mom and/or Dad before even thinking about walking across the room. So after a few months, she has finally decided that her parent’s backs hurt bad enough, and she is now walking on her own! I guess the lure of chasing Root Beer across the room so that she could get a better angle for throwing things at him was too much. Here’s a short video of her new found skill.
Real Bad Hair
Sometimes Maddie wakes up looking like this.
November 09
We moved next door to our old place, that is, after paying a fortune to haul our stuff up to Brentwood for a few months first. Let’s just say we did not fit in there. Anyway, we got back in November and went up to see my dad and friends in the Bay area. We’re headed to Hazard this week as well!

OK, we’re pretty lame with updating this blog…
…but we have excuses. We moved, leased a new home, leased out an old home, leased an apartment, did mold abatement, Maddie started daycare, C went back to work and we took 3 trips. Sandwiched in between all this was Maddie’s 1st birthday. Yea! Go Mads, you made it Girl! Unfortunately, we didn’t do much to celebrate because we’re bad, exhausted parents. But the good news is Maddie didn’t seem to notice or care. She was too busy enjoying her new found mobility. She has been scooting all over town for the past couple of months and if I don’t say so myself it’s about the funniest/cutest darn thing I’ve ever seen. She still refuses to crawl- she seems to have trouble holding that big old head of hers up for very long in that position. But she is getting ever more close to walking.
Christina and I are thrilled to be living back in Santa Monica. We moved next door to wear we used to live, and Root Beer and L.P. are pretty thrilled too. We just got back from visiting C’s dad in San Francisco and also met baby Patrick (Trolley) Farley for the first. He’s a cool guy! Here are some pix from the past few months.

A high performance endurance athlete
Christina trained all summer for the Malibu Triathlon, which took place this past weekend. I’m very proud to say that she completely rocked it as Mads and I rooted her on. Nina and Val both made the trip out and kicked ass as well. C’s time was just over two hours- not too shabby. The event included a .5 mile swim, 18 mile bike and a 4 mile run. Being in Malibu and all, there were loads of celebrities taking part, and the event organizers promoted their participation to no end. But C left all those celebrity weaklings with their personal trainer entourages in the dust. Congrats Christina!!
- Looking really strong on the new bike
- Maddie and I got a little bored at times
- In the home stretch

Summer Lovin’ 09
We have truly been negligent of our blog lately. But that’s because we’ve been having fun and traveling all summer! After meeting up with the Hennum’s in Idaho, we quickly jetted off to Myrtle Beach to see the whole Fitz clan as well as Valerie, the Combs’, and Lib & Rachel. Two relaxing weeks on the beach and then Patsy and I returned to LA where she babysat so I could train for the Malibu Triathlon. Sad to say, those hot summer nights are cooling off and filling us with back to school dreads….
How I learned to stop worrying, and love the neighborhood
George was walking the dog around here a few weeks ago. At one point, Root Beer was doing his thing on a dusty patch of pacasandra (sp?) when the owner of the house it surrounded waved furiously to him from her window. He waved back prompting her to came outside.
“You know, I wasn’t actually waving at you. I was motioning for you to get your dog off my lawn. We’ve just had it landscaped.”
Refreshing how honest people are in these parts!
Toothless & short, with a full head of hair
Sounds like a winning combination for a Match.com ad…or for a baby girl. Mads shows no sign of wanting to crawl or walk but boy can she screech and knick everything in front of you including 2 spoons from the two restaurants we went to yesterday. We returned one of them.
George took us to Montana de Oro for the weekend to celebrate 2 years of marriage. It was beautiful and we camped in the VW van.
